OPA-APO COVID-19 Guidelines

When the OPA resumes playing indoors in the fall , the risk of transmitting and catching COVID-19 will increase. Accordingly, it will be important for all OPA members to be diligent in following the guidelines of Ottawa Public Health to keep everyone as safe as possible, specifically:

  • If you have contracted COVID-19 do not return to play until after receiving two negative tests.
  • Do not play if you have been in contact in the past 14 days with someone that has COVID-19. Do not return to play until after receiving a negative test.
  • If you are sick, do not play pickleball, and don’t resume playing until after the symptoms have been gone for at least 2 days. You may choose to get tested for COVID-19.
  • If you have returned to Canada from another country, do not play until your 14 day self- isolation period is over and no symptoms have developed.
  • Wear a mask to and from the gym.
  • Maintain physical distancing of 2 metres ( 6 feet) between yourself and all other members.
  • Exercise proper hand hygiene; wash your hands regularly or use sanitizer.

Details of Play

• All players must register via BenchApp (this is not new). Please delete your name if you cannot
attend in order to assist with contact tracing, if needed.
• Ensure physical distancing is maintained while setting up and taking down the nets.
• There is a common gathering area in most gyms where players leave their bags, water bottles,
etc. To the extent possible players should place their equipment in a location 2 m away from the
equipment of other players. Where this is not possible, players should get what they need from
their equipment bag and then move away to allow others to access their storage location. For
example, in between games most players will want to have a drink of water, so get your water
bottle and then move to an open area to have a drink.
• Bring your own water as the fountains may be off-limits.
• If you need to use a public washroom, wash or disinfect your hands afterwards.
• Locker rooms may be off limits so come dressed to play.
• There may be occasions during the course of play when you get closer to your partner than 2 m.
Restore your physical distance as quickly as possible.
• You may choose to use hand sanitizer in between games. Hand sanitizer will be available in all
• Do not handle the ball any more than is necessary. When returning an errant ball to an adjacent
court, kick it back or hit it back with your paddle without handling the ball.
• Do not engage in any unnecessary contact such as fist bumps or paddle taps and remember to wear your mask on the way to the gym and after you leave the gym
